Recuerdos: Noson o Gitâr Glasurol

Jonathan Wiseman

‘Following a very well received concert last year, and a recent successful tour as a concerto soloist playing Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez , prizewinning classical guitarist Jonathan Wiseman returns to the Tabernacle on Saturday May 31st at 7.30pm.

An evocative mix of solo pieces will include Spanish guitar classics by Tarrega, Albeniz and Torroba interwoven with upbeat Latin American flavoured virtuoso compositions by Antonio Lauro and Tom Jobin/ Roland Dyens. The performance will include a contemporary, yet highly accessible, tryptych by the Cuban guitarist/composer Leo Brouwer inspired by African folk tales and infused with Yoruba rhythms: the Harp of the Warrior; the Lovers’ Flight through the Valley of Echoes; and the Ballad of the Damsel in Love.

Jonathan will also perform with his duo partner from the Royal Welsh College of Music with arrangements of music by Carulli, Albeniz and de Falla for two guitars. Guest artists also include local musicians Bethan and Jules Riley performing music by the great Elizabethan lutenist/composer John Dowland arranged for guitar and period instruments.’
